By Chris Dudley, San Antonio REALTOR® and founder of Legacy Realty Group, brokered by Real Broker, LLC (TREC #731381). Updated October 2026.

Stone Oak is a large master-planned area on San Antonio's far north side, along US 281 and north of Loop 1604. Homes here mostly fall in three ZIP codes: 78258 (the core of Stone Oak), 78259 (to the east) and 78260 (to the north). This guide covers prices, taxes, schools and what to check before you buy.

Stone Oak home prices by ZIP code (Redfin, 2026)

ZIP Median sale price Change vs. last year Homes sold Median days on market Sale-to-list
78258, July 2026 $553,127 -1.8% 168 38 98.8%
78259, September 2026 $432,873 +1.0% 67 47 97.8%
78260, August 2026 $497,535 -5.0% 183 60 97.9%

78258 sells fastest and closest to list price. In 78260, prices dipped about 5% and homes took about two months to sell, which gives buyers more room to negotiate. Chris prices every offer from SABOR MLS sales of similar homes in the same subdivision, not from ZIP-wide medians. Stone Oak includes many subdivisions with different home ages, lot sizes and HOA rules.

Most of Stone Oak is inside San Antonio city limits. For FY 2027, the City of San Antonio adopted a rate of $0.56288 per $100 of value, and Bexar County's rate is $0.276331. Your total bill also includes the school district and other local rates. Some addresses farther north may be outside city limits or inside a special district, so check the tax records for the exact home. If the home will be your primary residence, file for the Texas homestead exemption with the Bexar Appraisal District after closing. See San Antonio property taxes explained and MUD and PID taxes.

Most of Stone Oak is served by North East ISD. Some addresses toward the Bexar-Comal county line are in Comal ISD. Confirm the zoned schools for any specific home with the district before you make an offer.

HOAs

Most Stone Oak subdivisions have an HOA. Some also have a master association, gated sections or amenity fees. Review dues, rules, the resale certificate and any pending assessments before your option period ends. See HOAs for San Antonio buyers.

Getting around

What to check when buying in Stone Oak

  1. Inspect during the option period. Homes in Stone Oak range from 1990s resales to newer builds. Add roof, HVAC, pool or foundation checks where your inspector recommends them. See the Texas option period.
  2. Compare new construction and resale. See new construction in San Antonio.
  3. Use the market's pace. Where days on market run long, ask for seller-paid closing costs or repairs when comparable sales support it. See San Antonio closing costs.
